Atsuko
Kohata is a popular movie commentator in Japan. Fluent
in both English and Japanese, she has been hosting radio and
TV shows for nearly 20 years in Tokyo. Known for her
friendly and playful interviews, she has introduced the friendly
side of the Hollywood movie stars to the Japanese living rooms.
Her style is very unique. Not everybody gets to wrestle
with Tom Cruise, tie the shoe laces of Denzel Washington,
or tango with Antonio Banderas!
In 2004, she moved to Los Angeles to report on the U.S. film
scenes to Japan. Since then she has covered various topics
from Star Wars hype to the Academy Awards. From 2007
- 2008 she worked as a full time editor for Variety Japan
at the Variety office in Los Angeles. There she wrote
news on a daily bases, as well as covering feature stories,
such the influence of Japanese Anime in the US film industry.
Atsuko
is also active in fostering understanding between US and Japan.
In Japan, she was involved in many English language programs
for students learning English. In LA, she has worked
as a bilingual MC for various events such as the Japan Film
Festival, to help convey the fascinating world of Japanese
cinema in the US.
With two books out
on film, she continues to entertain and inform audiences around
the world as a film critic and as a bilingual personality.
